I recently had the opportunity to join the Friends of Church Langton School meeting to plan the activities for the year ahead. It is exciting to think ahead to the events and activities that we can now prepare and I thought was an opportunity to reflect on the contribution that FOCLS make to our school.
All of those involved in FOCLS are volunteers who give up their time to provide experiences for the children and families at our school and to raise funds to extend the resources and provision we have at Church Langton.
Over the past year we have had funding from FOCLS for:
Our sports flag to be used at sports days and other events
New PE equipment which is used by pupils across the school in lessons and clubs.
The year 6 residential trip for 2021 was subsidised by FOCLS to reduce the cost to parents when we were able to organise the trip with limited notice.
Reading books have been purchased for across the school and are being enjoyed by pupils of all ages.
We are also due to a receive a substantial donation to the cost of the new classroom from FOCLS.
Despite the challenges of Covid, in the last year FOCLS have also run fantastic Christmas and Summer Fun Days for the pupils, organised activities such as the Church Langton Tea towel and supported events such as Open Morning.
On behalf of the staff, pupils, governors and parents we would like to thanks those who have been involved with FOCLS over the past year and encourage all of our community to contribute to the charity in the year ahead.

Congratulations to the team of year six boys who won the Table Tennis competition held at Welland Park this week. Having had the chance to play a few of them at school, I know how competitive the team are and they should be very proud of their achievements. They are now looking forward to the area finals which are coming up next week.

Well done to the girls team who played in a series of matches at Harborough Town Football Club this week. The team, made up of pupils in years five and six, played well across the event with victories, draws and defeats all being part of the experience. Thank you to Mr Knowles for coaching the team.

It was a pleasure to welcome parents, grandparents and toddlers to our Open Morning. The year six pupils were delighted to be the tour guides sharing their experiences of school and to show our facilities.
If you were unable to make the day we would be delighted to welcome you for a personal tour with the Headteacher Steve Roddy.
The whole school took part in celebrating European Day of Languages with a special assembly and activities in school and to explore at home. In their Spanish and French lessons the children have been learning about different greetings. The children have different activities to try out on Team and we have been making use of this great book about languages around Europe.
It was wonderful to have the whole school together for our Harvest Service back at St Peter’s Church. Thank you to Rev Jonathan for leading our worship and well done to all of the classes who performed songs, poems and shared prayers.
The school community have also brought in a huge collection of items for South Leicester Foodbank, thank you to Mrs Clarke for organising the collection.

It has been a pleasure to welcome the children back to school for the start of the new academic year. They have had a great day meeting their new teachers and settling back into school. Our whole school worship and eating lunch back in the hall have been particular highlights.

As a celebration of our love of maths, the pupils had great fun taking part in the NSPCC’s Number Day. We welcomed Buddy to the school and he moved around the school with each class completing mathematical challenges to unlock the key to each class.
