Year 1 and 2 enjoyed solving maths problem to rescue a “prince in distress.”  Using all their skills they programmed robots, cracked codes, crawled through tunnels, solved sequences  and tackled maths problems to build jigsaws. All of the children thoroughly enjoyed working as a team to save the day.

Well done to the team of children from years five and six who took part in the French Speaking Competition held at Robert Smyth Academy. The children had a great morning, reciting in front of an audience and then hearing a presentation from a year 13 pupil who is a language leader. The event was organised by the South Leicestershire Collaborative Partnership with pupils from  Fleckney CE Primary School, Foxton Primary School, St Cuthbert’s CE Primary School and Billesdon CE Primary School taking part.

Year 6 did brilliantly in their Harvest festival performance, adding words of thanks to a popular current hit.  The children drafted their own lyrics and worked to incorporate lyrics that said what they wanted but also matched the beat of the music.  The children also choreographed dance moves which also enhanced the performance even more.  We were very proud of the end product and they should be too.

Year 2 enjoyed a very exciting trip to the Thinktank museum in Birmingham. The water exhibits were a huge draw with the children learning how water aids transportation and also how water can be used as a force.

The science garden also proved to be very popular. Using the themes of engineering, mechanics and transportation it bought science to life in an imaginative way.

It was a great day out and we can’t wait to do more learning in class around these subjects.

On Monday 10th October, Year 5 went on a trip to the National Space Centre in Leicester. We had a fantastic time learning about astronauts, planets, stars and space missions. The children watched an informative video in the Planetarium with pupils from other schools and went up in a lift to the height of a massive rocket! The class had a fantastic time and they will be writing a recount about their school trip soon so watch this space!

Some of the year 6 pupils who attend worship workshop enjoyed a visit to St John the Baptist Church in Goadby. Worship workshop is our club for pupils in years five and six where children can explore more about Christian faith through prayer and activities. The club is led by Father Felix and Reverend Alison and they meet once a week.
The visit to Goadby is part of our ongoing project for the pupils to learn about the places of worship in our surrounding villages and towns.
Father Felix led the tour, sharing the various features of the church and answering the children’s questions. During discussion the children were comparing it to St Peter’s in Church Langton where our school services are held. After half term this group will lead worship to share what they learnt on the trip, building on the learning from visits to Cranoe and Stonton Wyville last year.

A team of boys and girls had a brilliant afternoon representing the school in the Leicester Tigers Tag Rugby Festival held at Market Harborough Rugby Club. Following a six week period of coaching from a Tigers coach the children were selected to play against four other schools.

The children played with great enthusiasm and demonstrated each of the RFU core values of teamwork, discipline, enjoyment, sportsmanship and respect. In each of the matches they supported each other, scoring plenty of trys. The festival finished with a chance to meet Welford the Tiger and plenty of prizes for their achievements.

A big thank you to all of the staff at Leicester Tigers for the coaching sessions and organising a super afternoon of rugby.

Further photos can be found in the gallery on the year four page.

It was wonderful to see St Peter’s Church full for our Harvest service with parents, grandparents and toddlers joining the whole school. Reverend Janet led our service with each class performing a song. The Harvest service is always a highlight as it is the first chance our youngest class, the 4+, have to perform to the rest of the school.

They sang ‘Big Red Tractor’ with big smiles on their faces and it was wonderful to see so many proud parents enjoying their big moment. After year five surprised all of the congregation with their performance from each corner of the church, year six sang their own composition entitled ‘Thank you right now’.

The harvest collection this year is a joint project between the school and the members of St Peter’s as we collected items for the Jubilee Food Bank in Market Harborough. The harvest display in church was also complemented by produce from our own school garden.
