Sport funding is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to increase the variety and provision of PE & Sports available to pupils.
We believe that PE and Sports are an integral part of every child’s education and development. We aim to inspire the next generation by providing a wide range of sporting opportunities that cater for children of all abilities. We feel that all children should have access to quality PE provision, with the intention of increasing the amount of young people taking part in regular sporting activity throughout their lives.
In the academic year 2013/2014, Church Langton received a total of £8,900 which allowed us to extend our provision, and has been used as follows:
To purchase a PE Support Package from a local provider – this supported the PE co-ordinator in the direction the school should take in regards to curriculum PE and competitive sport. This also offered training for staff (staff tennis training, Val Sabin Primary Games training)
We also offered in-school training for staff in gymnastics and dance.
The introduction of clubs outside of the school day: Zumba (we have introduced Badminton in 2014/15).
Development time for staff
Provision of swimming lessons, including instructors and transport at little or no cost to parents
We collaborated closely with our family of schools/others local schools – we have regular meetings and set up competitions which included a Kwik Cricket tournament, swimming gala and Tag Rugby event.
We took part in more inter school competitions, involving more children, and achieved the Sainsburys School Games Silver Award:
- South Leicestershire Netball League (we were the winners in the A league and runners up in the B league)
- Netball event at Brockington (which led to us entering the Sainsbury School Games Summer Finals where we came 2nd in the county)
- Netball event at Leicester High School for Girls
- Boys Football league
- Girls Football league
- Uni hoc for years 3 and 4 at Robert Smyth Academy (RSA)
- Quick sticks for years 5 and 6 at RSA
- Basketball at RSA
- Indoor Athletics at Countesthorpe
- Tag Rugby Festival for year 3 organised by Leicester Tigers
- Tag Rugby competition at Market Harborough Rugby Club
- Cross country meets at Harborough Leisure Centre
- Table Tennis competition
- Swimming Gala at Leicester Grammar School (LGS)
- Tennis competition at LGS
We provided opportunities for the least able in PE – we introduced an inclusive sports club for children to participate in.
We provided opportunities for the most able in PE – KS1 and KS2 children took part in a Gifted and Talent Day which was led by RSA young leaders. We will be running a G+T Rugby club in 2014/15 (run by our Sports Coach).
We have been able to establish links with local clubs – we were involved in a Year 3 Tag Rugby event which included 6 weeks training with Leicester Tigers and had Leicester Riders Basketball Team come and visit us with a ‘Hoops 4 Health’ road show.
We have increased pupil participation in extra-curricular clubs and increased enjoyment in PE as a whole – we carried out two surveys during the year of all the children in the school. The surveys highlighted the increased pupil participation with the increase in clubs available.
This academic year (2014/2015) we used some of our funding to employ a sports coach who supported teachers in PE lessons and extra-curricular activities. They organised friendlies in sports against local school teams and ran more frequent inter-house competitions to increase participation in sport even further.
Church Langton again received a total of £8,900 which allowed us to extend our provision even further and was used as follows:
The introduction of Aussie Rules Football as a new sport for children to try
Development time for staff
Provision of swimming lessons, including instructors and transport at little cost to parents
We continued to collaborate closely with our family of schools/others local schools – we have regular meetings and set up competitions which included a swimming gala and Tag Rugby event

In 2015/16 we continued to use our funding to support children in accessing new sports through the introduction of trial sports, such as taekwondo and fun and fitness. We have improved the quality of our sports equipment to enable high quality PE teaching.
We used some of the funding to apply for the Association for Physical Education (afPE) Quality Mark, which we were successful in achieving.
