The children had a brilliant day visiting the Aerozone at East Midlands Airport. They enjoyed the role play opportunities and meeting all of the staff. They have then produced some excellent writing to remember their day. Thank you to Mrs Edwards and all of the four plus staff and parent volunteers for a great day.
Our squad of pupils from years three, four, five and six put in an outstanding performance at the Championships held at Corby Triangle stadium. Competing in sprints, throwing, jumping and relay events, our pupils represented the school brilliantly. Each performance helped the school to our overall result with the finishes each earning points to the overall outcome. A particular highlight was to see our large squad of 35 children cheering each other on, the cheers could be heard from the other side of the stadium!
A big thank you to Mrs House, Mrs Harrison, Mrs Edwards and Miss Parker for supporting and officiating at the event.
The hard ball cricket team had their first match of the season defeating Linden Primary School in an entertaining match. The boys scored an impressive total of 115 runs before bowling out the opposition with a great team display. Thank you to Mr Baylis and Mr Williams for coaching the team.
Well done to the team of year six pupils who won the quad kids athletics event hosted by Fleckney Primary School. The festival involved pupils from all six school who are involved in the South Leicestershire Collaborative Partnership. The children performed to a very high standard across a range of events, thank you to Mrs Sparkes for leading the team.
Writing workshop
Thank you to Oakham School who hosted the writing workshop for some of our year six pupils this week. The children had a great time working with performance poet Chris White.
Chris White is a highly regarded fiction writer, performance poet and illustrator and has written many books and poems such as ‘Don’t Put Dave in the Microwave’, ‘Stumpy’s Big Adventure’ and the ‘Beast from the East’. Chris is also currently participating in the BBC’s Digital Curriculum project aimed to provide online literacy assistance for children.
He set the children to work creating their own amusing and wacky poems about fabulous creatures pieced together from a number of different animals, dogs with superpowers, cats and pigs who suffer unimaginable misfortunes and an incredibly fat superhero in a sparkly tutu and ballet slippers!
Thanks to Mrs Byrne for accompanying the group.
The children in year six had a wonderful trip to London after completing their SATs. The day started with a tour around Westminster Abbey which was then followed by a trip to the Tate Britain. The children have been studying David Hockney this term so it was a super chance to see his work. The children then enjoyed a meal at Pizza Express before returning to school. Thank you to Mr Baylis for organising and leading a brilliant experience for the children.
